Sustainability
There are only a few places left in the world where you can effortlessly catapult yourself back in time. Exploring the centuries-old city centre of Bruges, you can easily imagine how the wealthy elite used to parade through the streets. Just as we cherish this historical heritage, we should do the same with the fragile nature that surrounds us. There is not much left of that either. Below you can read what measures we have taken so far to do our part.
Keep it green
Green Park Hotel Brugge is literally hidden in greenery. Through a green covered driveway, you eventually discover the spacious car park and the hotel. Everywhere you look you see trees, plants, bushes and flowers. This is not by accident. Although cars need a place to park, we see to it that elsewhere the greenery can flourish. Animals and insects like to take advantage of this, which is why the gardener uses only ecological products for maintenance.
Children can also run around to their heart’s content on the grass and among the trees. Thanks to all that greenery, the garden terrace remains pleasant on hot days and romping around in the playground is also a lot more pleasant if there is enough shade.
In the garden, you still have the choice of whether to sit in the sun or not, but on the roof, the sun has free rein. That is why there are no fewer than 80 solar panels to supply the hotel with green electricity.
Rooms
Are you staying more than one night? Nice! In that case, when you check-in, you will be asked if you want to use the cleaning service the next day. If not, you will receive a voucher worth €5 to use at the bar. By skipping cleaning, you save water, electricity and cleaning products.
In the room itself, we continue this policy with refillable soap pumps and reusable cups. Thanks to water-saving shower heads, you can shower guilt-free. If you hang up your towel after showering instead of putting it on the floor, housekeeping knows that you care about the environment and that you don’t mind using your towel more than once.
If it is hot in your room, check that the heating is not on or too high before opening the window. Because people tend to forget things outside the routine of home, a sticker is put on the window to help you remember that. For the same reason, the light turns off automatically after five seconds when you take your keycard out of its holder when leaving your room.
Restaurant & bar
In the supermarket, you will find products from all over the world. Convenient! But to get all those goodies on your plate, those products have to travel a lot of polluting kilometres. Fortunately, you can also find a lot of delicious local products in the Bruges area. Think, for instance, of the Brugse Zot. You can taste it at the hotel, and if you can’t get enough of it, you can take a tour of the brewery in the centre of Bruges.
A flower on the table looks cheerful but needs to be replaced often. That is why you won’t see fresh flowers on the table at Green Park Hotel Bruges, but you will see cacti and succulents. An additional advantage is that succulents are air-purifying plants.
Green move
Exploring the area by bike truly is a green move. You get to places you can’t get to by car and don’t have to look for parking either. You can cycle straight into the historic centre. Do you prefer to go out into nature? You will also find many historical stories hidden in the greenery.
We like to encourage guests to move green. That’s why you can hire a normal or electric bike at the hotel. If you would like to bring your own bike, you can park it in the covered bicycle shed.
Another great way to travel green is an electric car. There are charging electric charging stations available at the parking of the hotel for your convenience.
