Why You Should Go To The Cactus Festival In Bruges

Are you planning a summer vacation to Bruges in July? You’re lucky enough to be visiting at the same time as the fantastic Cactus Festival,  an event everyone should experience. No, it’s not a festival for horticulturalists or plant lovers. Instead, it’s a music festival designed for music lovers of all ages. Taking place in Minnewaterpark from Friday 8th July to Sunday 10th July, the festival is where open-minded musical people come together to share one common goal, listen to some fantastic tunes, eat some great food and have fun. If you don’t fancy camping on the grounds, you can book a comfortable, great value stay in the nearby Green Park Hotel. Contact us or check our website for our latest availability and best available rates.

About Cactus Festival

Once a year, our beautiful city plays host to an international music festival that hosts artists from around the world. It attracts party lovers, fans and families from across the globe, gathering to sing, dance and eat as one. Cactus Festival is a festival with a mission. It prides itself on being different to the rest. The relaxed atmosphere is complemented by a relaxed crowd, made up of all ages and nationalities. Don’t worry about schedule conflicts, the festival has only one stage where all of the acts perform after each other, so you can give each performer your full attention. The décor is bright and colourful, setting the scene for a fantastic weekend. The capacity is just 25,000, giving it a smaller, more intimate vibe than other festivals with twice the number in attendance. It has been taking place annually since 1982 and the focus has always been rock and alternative music, rather than mainstream.

The organisers, Cactus Muziekcentrum is a non-profit organisation. Any profits from the festival are reinvested making future concerts and projects possible. They also offer opportunities to artists who find it difficult to travel or for financial reasons.

Cactus Festival Line up

The festival line-up is always much anticipated and never fails to excite music lovers. The open-air festival is a special place for both established international artists and unknown, up and coming acts trying to break into the music scene. Various musical styles are represented such as jazz, reggae and rap with the bulk of the acts performing rock or alternative music. After big names such as Robert Plant & Alison Krauss, Balthazar, Franz Ferdinand, Belle and Sebastian, Ben Harper & The Innocent Criminals and Richard Hawley confirmed their appearance, indie-pop band White Lies and Belgian Singer, Songwriter K.ZIA complete the line-up of the 39th edition of Cactus Festival. There truly is something for everyone here and the festival is family-friendly.

BAZAAR

The BAZAAR is the culinary heart of the Cactus Festival. Don’t worry about finding something you like, there is something here for all tastes and budgets. Step into a world of flavours and aromas, with cuisines from across the globe represented. Enjoy everything from Italian to Vietnamese with some typical Belgian specialities in the BAZAAR. You’ll find fantastic Bahn Mi, mushroom burgers, Japanese sushi, chicken on a spit, fresh fish, fantastic pasta, kebab, vegetarian and vegan food here and plenty for the little ones. Finish off with a coffee and an ice cream before you head back to the stage for more musical delights. You can also enjoy some beauty treatments in the BAZAAR like a relaxing massage or a reinvigorating facial, before diving back into the festival, reborn!
