Spring means blooming daffodils in Bruges!

Spring is finally here are we can’t wait to
get out and enjoy it. Spring in Bruges brings vibrant natural colours, more
people exploring our beautiful streets and only the odd April shower. Daffodils
are the ultimate springtime flower and we’re lucky to have lots of places to
enjoy these bursts of light through the Spring months. Book springtime
accommodation in Green Park Hotel Bruges and discover the beauty of the city
for yourself.

The Bruges Beguinage

The Bruges Beguinage is one of Bruges’ most visited attractions.  The best time to visit the Beguinage is during March and April, the perfect season for daffodils. Each year at the start of Spring, the flowers begin to bloom and thousands of visitors from Belgium and overseas flock to enjoy the bright colours and cheerful blooms. Once you walk through the gate you will be greeted with waves of yellow and orange from thousands of blooming daffodils. Enjoy a leisurely stroll through these gorgeous gardens enjoying the fresh air and the wonderful flower displays. Bring your camera because this ocean of flowers has to be seen to be believed.

Don’t forget to visit the nearby “De Halve Maan” (The Half Moon) in the Walplein square. During the tour, they will take you to their historic brewery tower and you will have a unique, birds-eye view of the fields of Daffodils. It’s also worth visiting the Beguines’ house, the oldest house in the city dating to the 16th century, which now serves as a museum.

Flower Market in Bruges

If you’re on the lookout for some fresh food or flowers, the markets in Bruges are a perfect choice. Support local growers and suppliers when you visit Markt in the city centre where you’ll have your pick of the finest, freshest fruits, vegetables, produces and flowers. Every Wednesday from 8.00 until 13.30 you’ll find a huge range of locally grown or sourced food, flowers and plants, perfect to take home and brighten up your home. Stop for some freshly prepared food on one of the many stalls selling roasted meat, hot dishes like noodles, or a light bite like coffee and waffles.

If you’re lucky enough to be in Bruges on Saturdays from 8:00 till 13:00 and you’d love some daffodils to take home, don’t miss Beursplein market. Whether you are looking for ingredients for lunch, pretty plants for your garden, something nice to wear or a gift for a loved one or yourself, Beursplein market is a great place to browse.

Parks in Bruges

Parks are the best place to enjoy blooming daffodils and other plants and flowers in Bruges. Minnewaterpark, connected to the town by the Bargebrug, is usually a starting spot for visitors to Bruges. This pretty park is one of the first places you see when arriving by train or coach to the city. The Minnewater (Lake of Love) and its lovely park (Minnewaterpark) is a great starting point to explore the city or relax after travel. Bring a picnic if the weather is fine and spend some time enjoying the flowers.

Koningin Astridpark is Bruges’ secret garden, usually frequented by locals or regular visitors to the area. It’s a perfect example of how an urban space should be used and was first a monastery garden from around 1221. Nowadays the park is a place where locals and tourists can enjoy the coolness of the trees on hot summer days. Enjoy the ornamental fountain and the landscaped gardens or watch your little ones enjoy the playground. If you time your visit well, you might enjoy a concert from the bandstand.
